CONTENTS Dear Colleagues, This is the second issue of the newly formatted newsletter of the International Association for the Study of Cooperation in Education. Our organization is alive and cooking. We've re-organized so that we can better meet the needs of our members and expand in some new directions. Here are the things in this newsletter you'll want to pay special attention to: It's election time for the IASCE. Some of our current board members have terms that expire this summer. Some of the senior, veteran members of the board are stepping aside because they have already served the maximum time allowed. It's time for us to elect some new board members who can help move the organization along in its new configuration. Inside, you'll find a form that you can use to nominate yourself to the board. Or, if you don't want to run personally, perhaps you'd like to call a friend and suggest he/she run for the board. The slate will be published in the next issue of the newsletter, along with personal statements from each of the candidates. There have been some exciting changes on our website. If you are a computer-friendly person, you will want to check this out and see what's there. More details inside. Looking for something new to read about cooperative learning? Searching for a textbook for your cooperative learning class or for a friend or colleague? We have book reviews of two new exciting books on cooperative learning. This continues to be a time of growth and development in the field of cooperative learning, and these books are evidence of this. An important article by Elizabeth Cohen on evaluation criteria for cooperative learning. You'll also find a list of regional contacts as well as some regional news. If you have an association in your area, please send us the name, address and phone number of the contact person as well as a brief description of what's going on in your area regarding cooperative learning. We continue to welcome your input! Send us any of the following: news of upcoming cooperative learning conference in your area, new publications or articles about cooperative learning, reviews of new books on cooperative learning, or any news related to our field. Perhaps you know of a wonderful cooperative learning teacher you'd like to make others aware of--write and tell us. The next newsletter will be assembled by Elizabeth Cohen. You can send things to her at this address: Stanford University, School of Education, Stanford, CA 94305, USA. Enjoy! |
