We continue the practice of having a co-president of the association. Celeste Brody will focus on the internal workings of the board and association while Mark Brubacher is the conference coordinator and host for the 1999 IASCE Conference. He is working closely with Mara Sapon-Shevin to bring us a totally different conference. Mara and Mark explain the "Open Space" approach in this issue and invite you to join us in July in Toronto for a process that will allow participants to engage in a dialogue about the cutting edge issues and questions. Larry Sherman continues as the treasurer and website master. He is also the editor of this issue of the newsletter. Kathryn Markovchick is not only the regional representative to the board, she is also the newsletter production editor. And now, she has also taken on membership services. Take note of the new Association address. Through her willing energy we have been able to consolidate functions for members once again, bring you this newsletter and produce a new flyer (See attached flyer) to assist members in introducing the association to friends and colleagues. Bette Chambers is past co-president, and she is now on the staff of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, where she is working on the early childhood education project. You can read about her project in a future newsletter. Notice that we are instituting some new membership services. See the offerings from Spencer Kagan and for member discounts in books and trainings. So, take note of the new executive board of directors, their addresses and committee responsibilities. They would like to hear from you and would welcome your involvement. And, we invite you to attend one of the most interesting conferences ever The 1999 Open Space IASCE meeting in Toronto. Mara and Mark explain it in detail inside. Finally, join us through the chat room in our website. Or, send us an e-mail with information and what you are doing. We would like to keep members informed and up-to-date. From the new board members to you: We invite you to join us in leading cooperative learning into the 21st Century. We Electronically practice what we preach! While this article appears in the form of a real "hardcopy" newsletter, it will soon be available on our website, as well.
