This issue, therefore, focuses on the contributions by educators in Asia
to the understanding of and appreciation for the application of cooperative
learning in different
contexts. It also marks the transition to a more active website. We invite
our readers to use the website more often. In this issue readers will
see:
1. A report on the Toronto open-space conference
with a sample of the
discussions that were held and a list of topics
discussed;
2. A summary of research posted on
the IASCE website, featuring abstracts
of research report from four social studies
educators in Malaysia;
3. A summary of an action research project
by two Malaysian educators;
4. A tribute to Elizabeth Cohen of
Stanford University;
5. A book review by George Jacobs of
Singapore on a classic Russian work
that critiques the social emphasis of Darwin's
theory;
6. An article on anger by Johanna
Leseho, Ph. D.;
7. Reports from the regions.
In addition, readers should note several changes:
1. As we re-commit the IASCE to support
those who are interested in the study of cooperative learning in education,
we invite articles and reports of research for the newsletter and the
website;
2. The annual dues have been lowered to $20 per year to encourage educators
from around the world to join;
3. The IASCE can now take credit cards for payment of annual dues.
We hope to become completely electronic by next year. We will continue
to send hard copy but only to those who so indicate. Let us know what
you think of this newsletter and the changes we are making. Send us your
papers, articles, links, bibliographies, book reviews and research reports.
Use the e-mail address of any of our board members.
