IASCE Executive Board Member Wins Ig Nobel Prize

We are proud to announce that IASCE Executive Board Member and Treasurer, Larry Sherman, was the recipient of the 2001 Ig Nobel Prize for Psychology. The Ig Nobel Prizes (www.improb.com/ig/ig-top.html) are bestowed upon people whose achievements, in the words of the awards committee, "cannot or should not be reproduced." Each year ten prizes are awarded to "celebrate the unusual, honor the imaginative – and spur people's interest in science, medicine, and technology."

The Prizes are awarded at a gala ceremony in Harvard's Sanders Theatre. The Prizes are given to the winners by "genuinely bemused genuine Nobel Laureates." The whole affair is sponsored by the science humor magazine, Annals of Improbable Research (AIR) (www.improbable.com).

Larry won the award for his dissertation research, "An Ecological Study of Glee in Small Groups of Preschool Children," which appeared in Child Development, 46(1), 1975, 53-61.
