Excursions

The local planning group is developing some options for additional excursions. The possibilities include one and two-day study visits to schools in the North West; these visits will be designed to provide practitioners the opportunity to learn more about the English education system. Another possibility is a one-day study tour of the Co-operative Industrial Heritage of the North West—including a visit to Rochdale and Toad Lane to a museum at the site of the first successful co-operative shop. These, and other, excursions will take place both pre and post conference. Participants and families interested in these excursions should check www.iasce.net in January 2002 for details.

Extra Days in Manchester

Manchester England is the regional capital of North West England. It is a dynamic urban centre and will be the host of the 2002 Commonwealth Games in July 2002. For participants wishing to "come early" or "stay on," Manchester is well placed for exploring northern England. It is close to the Peak District, Britain's oldest National Park. It is within easy reach of North Wales, Snowdonia National Park, and the fabled Lake District. The extra night rate can be used in conjunction with the optional excursions or with independent travel.

Extra nights are available at UMIST and fees include breakfast.

UMIST accommodation--hotel standard single 75 British Pounds
UMIST accommodation--hotel standard double 85 British Pounds
UMIST accommodation--student single with private bath 30 British Pounds
